Lotto Good Causes

To date, National Lottery players have contributed over £46 billion to support the Lotto Good Causes program. This initiative entails the distribution of funds through grants to various organizations across the UK. Notably, the funding allocation responsibility does not rest with Allwyn, the National Lottery operator. Instead, it is entrusted to the 12 specialist organizations that comprise the National Lottery Distribution Fund (NLDF). This fund is administered by the government Department for Culture, Media, and Sport.

To illustrate, in the year ending 31 March 2022, the distribution of funds was as follows: 40% awarded to health, education, environment and charitable causes, 20% to Sports, 20% to Arts and 20% to Heritage.

National Lottery retains 1% of revenue as profit, with 95% returned to winners and society. On the other hand, National Lottery spends the remaining 4% of revenue on operating costs.
